Taking Control of Your Health: Evidence-Based Health and Wellness Programming

Five icons, each labeled with "Living Healthy," "Living Healthy - With Diabetes," "Living Healthy - With Chronic Pain," "A Matter of Balance," and "Building Better Caregivers."

As we age, our bodies begin to endure natural changes. However, many older adults experience. additional health problems such as chronic conditions, chronic pain, and diabetes. The fear of falling also becomes a reality. One way to manage these health implications is to participate in evidence-based health promotion workshops. Evidence-based programs are based on research and provide documented health benefits for those that participate. Centralina Area Agency on Aging’s Health and Wellness team understands both the natural process of aging and the additional health implications older adults can experience. Our team works to create additional health and wellness opportunities for older adults to access by promoting evidence-based health workshops. Five evidence-based programs are currently offered through Centralina Area Agency on Aging.

Older adults who participate in these evidence-based programs reap benefits that many still experience after the conclusion of workshops. While each workshop is specific to a certain health condition, participants learn valuable skills to better manage certain aspects of their condition including:

  • Fatigue
  • Exercises for health
  • Healthy eating choices
  • Effective communication skills
  • Difficult emotions
  • Setting realistic goals

Interested in helping promote health and wellness opportunities for older adults in your area?

Centralina Area Agency on Aging’s Health and Wellness team also actively strives to recruit and train community members to become leaders for these workshops. Our two- or four-day trainings help prepare individuals with subject-based material and scripted guides proven to educate and make a positive impact on workshop attendees. All materials are provided and we just ask for the future leaders’ time and dedication. Furthermore, becoming a leader provides networking connections, relationship building, continuing education, and the promotion of better quality of life for older adults.
